About Huntsville
In the 1950's, North Alabama was dotted with small, industrial cotton towns; then one day a small Army of German rocket scientists was assembled in Huntsville to develop rockets for the U.S. Army. Not long after, the team, led by Dr. Wernher von Braun, was successful in building a rocket which left Earth's outer atmosphere. Thanks to their remarkable efforts, the team's success eventually catapulted Americans into space and to the moon - in addition to earmarking Huntsville as a technology goldmine that continues to cultivate and thrive today. When Dr. von Braun teased Huntsville with an incentive to continue in the space and defense race, Huntsville saw the opportunity to grow. Today Huntsville is one of the leading technology centers in the world, boasting over 50 Fortune 500 companies within it's city limits. The Huntsville-metro area is a growing, diverse population of more than 350,000 people, of which more than 10 percent are natives of other countries and over 100 languages are fluently spoken.
